Betty Lea (Aldridge) Aitken

August 5, 1919 ~ July 25, 2016 (age 96) 96 Years Old

AITKEN, Betty Lea (nee Aldridge)

Peacefully at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Monday, July 25th, 2016 in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Donald Woodrow Aitken. Devoted mother of Gary Aitken (Harmony) and Nancy Aitken (Gerry Hardy). Cherished grandmother of Kelley Salmon (Brenton), Todd Aitken (Adrienne), Matthew Davies (Cindy), Christopher Davies and Michael Davies (Heather). Adored great-grandmother of Benjamin, Connor, Masen, Emmersyn, Evan, Ryan, Adam, Rowan, Avery and Wyatt. Fondly remembered by Peter Calvert (Liz), Kristal Davies, her nieces Joan Queale (the late Andrew), Pat Meade (the late John) and Sharon Aldridge and nephew Jack Aldridge (Sharon). Predeceased by her parents George and Rachel Aldridge, brother John Aldridge (Dolly) and sister Helen Daniels (Dan). Betty particularly enjoyed the company of family members, relatives and her many friends. She had a lovely, welcoming smile, an infectious, fun-loving laugh and a wonderful sense of humour. She was an excellent bridge player, an energetic golfer who always walked the course and an especially avid reader. While her failing health eventually determined much of what Betty was able, and unable, to do, she continued to challenge herself with cryptic crosswords and loved to watch the Blue Jays. She knew their individual batting averages and never missed a game, even those that were televised late at night from the west coast. Her home on Chemong Lake was her passion and she strove to live out her final years there. Betty will be remembered for her strength and the passionate way in which she chose to live her life. She was a strong and intelligent woman, devoted to her family and an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of knowing her.  In accordance with Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. A Private family inurnment will take place at the Little Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sleeping Children around the World.
