Dorothy Olive (Burfield) Downer

Downer, Dorothy Olive (nee Burfield) – Peacefully surrounded by her family, Dorothy was promoted to glory on Monday, May 8, 2017  at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre in her 100th year. Beloved wife of the late Asa Downer. Loving mother of Eleanor Thompson (John), Ronald “Joe” Downer (Theresa) and the late Eric Downer. Lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Linda Downer. Cherished grandmother of Wendy (Rodger), Deborah (Jim), Bryan (Lorraine), Lori, Ron (Karen), Paul and the late David. Proud great grandmother of Jessica, Josh, Tyler, Deserea, Andrew, Kaylyn, Lauryn, Tommy and Sophie. Predeceased by her parents, Richard and Sarah Burfield and siblings, Jean, Jack, Ruby, Arnold and Bruce. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army, Peterborough Temple and Byersville South. She volunteered for the Home League and the League of Mercy for many years. She was also a 17 year employee of the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Highland Park Funeral Centre (2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough) from 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday May 12, 2017 at The Salvation Army Temple (219 Simcoe St., Peterborough). Visitation will be held 1 hour prior from 12-1 p.m. Interment at Highland Park Cemetery will follow the reception. In memory of Dorothy, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
