With his family by his side, J. Brian Turner, age 92 of Peterborough, Ontario passed away October 20, 2017 at Royal Gardens Retirement Residence. Born September 9, 1925 in Southport, Lancashire, England, Brian emigrated to Canada in 1954, to work on the Avro Arrow before settling in Peterborough in 1959.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty (nee Brow), and children Malcolm (Barbara Black), Elisabeth (Peter Grasmanis) and Kathryn (Ed Witzke); grandchildren Claire and Anna Witzke; and brother Roger (Jill). Brian was predeceased by his sister Mildred Saunders.
Brian enjoyed a long career in the aviation and nuclear power industries including English Electric, Dowty Canada, Atomic Power Department of Canadian General Electric then teaching at Sir Sandford Fleming College. He volunteered with Boy Scouts, St John’s Anglican Church and was a founding member of the Peterborough Sailing Club.
The family thanks the staff of Royal Gardens and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre for the kind and compassionate care that was given. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in Brian’s memory to The General Student Bursary Program at Fleming College.
Visitation will take place at St. John’s Anglican Church, 99 Brock Street, on Friday, October 27th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Memorial Service in St John’s Church at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.
