Violet Mary Hubay (nee Lambert)

1932 – 2024

On her 92nd birthday, our mother, Vi Hubay passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She died knowing that she had loved and was loved.  She will be remembered as a forward thinking, caring and generous person with a great sense of humour.

Mom embraced new ideas, as she observed the world changing around her. Her passions included cultural diversity, human rights and advances in technology. She loved art, music, singing, dancing and participating in her Ottawa book club and the Summit Singers in Peterborough. She volunteered at her community’s art galleries and libraries.

Now she is re-united with the love of her life, Dad (Jim Hubay).  What a life they had, sharing their passions for music and seeing the world. They were married in 1952. Over their 70 years together they lived in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Saudi Arabia, Kelowna, Ottawa and Peterborough. In their travels, Mom and Dad loved people watching and engaging with the locals, while absorbing the culture and history.

Mom made warm connections with her neighbours and staff at Summit Terrace for which we are thankful. We are also grateful for the health care our mother received recently from the caring staff at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

Family was everything to her.  Mom is predeceased by her parents Alexander and Elizabeth, her husband, Jim, her sister Anne and her cousins Alex, Ann and Andy. Left to share Mom’s stories are her daughters Susan (Hugh), Jean (Eric), and her son Jim (Catherine). She will be missed by her grandchildren Michelle, Nikki, Samantha, Kurt, James and Anna (and their partners) and great grandchildren Silas and Dylan. Her nieces and nephew along with their families will also hold special memories of Mom.
