William 'Arthur' Davenport

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Art (William Arthur) Davenport in Peterborough, ON on the afternoon of March 21, 2024, at the age of 78.  He left surrounded by love.  Art was born in Gravenhurst, ON to William and Beatrice (Caron) Davenport on April 26, 1945.  He grew up in the Muskoka’s and then moved to Toronto where he met the love of his life. He and Maureen married soon after and moved to Peterborough to start their life together. They had Jenny (Jennifer) first and then moved to Norwood for a few years, which is when they had Nora.  They moved back to Peterborough where they raised their girls and several foster children from the Children’s Aid Society and Peterborough & District Association for Community Living.  During those years, Art worked on the assembly lines at Outboard Marine and Pioneer Chainsaws.  After the factories closed, Art went to work with Maureen in her business, Maureen’s Custom Clean-All.  In 2007, they relocated to Fort McMurray to be closer to their girls and grandchildren where Art worked as a parts runner for Midlite Construction. Art and Maureen moved back to Peterborough in 2014.

Art leaves behind his wife Maureen (Shaughnessy) of 55 years; daughters Jenny Davenport (sp. Vaughn Haynes) and Nora Hickling; grandchildren James Davenport (sp. Eunice Borja), Madelaine Hickling, Olivia Hickling, and Charleigh Haynes; siblings Christina DeSantis (sp. Rick DeSantis 1959-2009 dec. / Allan Tattersall 2018-2019 dec.) and Julie Leach (sp. Bob Leach); in-laws Jane Hennessey (sp. Robert Hennessey), Lisa Corkery (sp. Mark Corkery) and David Shaughnessey (sp. Shelley (Kidd) Shaughnessy) and numerous nieces and nephews.  Art is pre-deceased by his parents William and Beatrice (Caron) Davenport; brother Charles Davenport; sisters Florence Davenport, Donna Herlihy (sp. Gerry Herlihy), Teresa Vincent (sp. Louis Vincent), Louise Jonnson (sp. Ben Jonnson); father and mother-in-law James and Albertha (Chapman) Shaughnessy; and in-laws Ellen Clark (sp. Doug Clark).

A special thanks from the family to the Palliative Care Team and Peterborough Hospice for the care and respect shown to Art.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Art’s Memorial Service in the Chapel of Highland Park Funeral Centre on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 1:00pm followed by a reception in Highland Park Reception Centre. Please do not wear scented products if attending the service in person due to a severe allergy in the family. For those not able to attend, Art’s service will be live streamed on the Highland Park website.
