Bill Pappas

PAPPAS, Bill (Basili Papakyriazis) – While surrounded by his loving family, Bill passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of 63 years to Toula Pappas (nee Anagnostopoulos). Loving and devoted father of Gina Poulos (Louis), Charley Pappas (Georgia) and Dean Pappas (Anita). Proud Papu of Stacey, Billy, Basil and Toula. Cherished brother of Toula Demonakos. Predeceased by his parents Charley and Georgina, sister Nota Kafarakis and brother Ken Pappas. Bill was born in the village of Anavriton in Arcardia, Greece in 1927. In his early years, Bill fought the Nazis and escaped from Communist re-education camps while serving in the Greek Army. He later became a Sergeant with the Military Police during which time he drove a Harley-Davidson motorcycle while on duty. In 1955 Bill moved to Canada to make enough money to bring his Fiancé from Greece to start a family. Within a year, Toula arrived in Canada and they were married in 1956. In 1962 Bill and Toula moved to Peterborough where Bill purchased the billiards from his uncle Louis Yeotes, which still stands today as “Pappas Billiards” on George Street. Bill leaves us with a lifetime of wonderful memories and his love will continue to be felt by all of us. Visitation will be held at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 406 Parkhill Road East, on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. followed by interment at Little Lake Cemetery and a reception at Highland Park Reception Centre.
