I just caught the sad news in the Otonabee College newsletter from Ashley Gerrits.

Bruce was always so generous and a gentle spirit that shared a laugh with everyone in residence.

Thank you for being such an important part of our lives at Trent!

Only learned today of Bruce's death. He was an essential part of Otonabee College for all the years he was porter there, a great friend and help to so many students, perhaps especially to the pub managers! Uncountable times he solved problems for students and faculty, always with a smile or a laugh. He's one of those people you always felt better having seen them. I will always be grateful to have known him. My best wishes to Janice and to all his family.

I was a Trent employee back in the day as a TA in Psychology Dept. Bruce became a great friend - we shared talks of his times of hunting and fishing. Bruce always had a smile on his face and had a story to tell. He will be sadly missed! My heartfelt condolences to his family - no doubt a difficult time for you all!

Bruce was a special person. Worked with Bruce for most of his 39 years at Trent. He was always so cheerful and supportive. If you were having a down day he could always look at the bright side and cheer you up with one of his, what I call, wise jokes. Playing on Trent staff teams over the years, he always had the dressing room or dugout in tears of laughter. You couldn't wait to get to the game, just because you knew he was going to have you in stitches. If staff teams could have a captain, he would have been the guy. He will be dearly missed. My condolences go out to his many family and friends.

So sorry to hear about Bruce passing away. He was one of my clients at Topping Insurance. Always enjoyed our visits when he was in the office. He had a great laugh and always had a few stories to tell. He could make me laugh listening to him laugh. He really enjoyed life. My maiden name was Shearer so Bruce always thought we could somehow be related. That would have been okay with me. My condolences to the family.

My deep condolences to you, Jan, and the whole family. Bruce was so kind and helpful to me when we set up the Trent School of Education, encouraging and renewing us with his humour and helping problem solve a myriad of details. He continued that support for the School of Education and its faculty right up to his retirement.
I used to go and 'hide' in his office with him whenever I needed a 5 minute break and he never failed to talk about his beautiful family or you, Jan, who worked so hard to keep him as healthy as possible.
He was a kind and gentle giant of a man, understated and full of fun. I feel so honoured to have worked with him for such a long time.

I knew Bruce way back around 1969 -1970 when I worked at a gasbar on number 7 hwy., at Indian River.
He drove a - I think - black and white1958 chev with what looked like a string of Christmas lights in the grille.
Guaranteed, every time he left the gas station, he would put the car in nuetral, rev it up, and drop it in drive. Chirp go the tires. He did it for us onlookers.
He later had a purple Plymouth Roadrunner. When I asked him how fast, he quickly responded "135 m.p.h.".
He also had one of the most complex coifes I have ever seen.
Knew his dad Gavin, not exactly the same haircut as Bruce. Light blue chev 3/4 ton.
He had a sister as I recall that went to University tp become a Verinarian.
Bruce was friendly as was his whole family.
Same eyes and smile as I recall from 47 years ago.
Gone far too young.
Thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
