McLELLAN, Elizabeth (Libby) (nee Burns)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Libby McLellan at Lakefield Extendicare on May 3, 2018, in her 94th year, with her family by her side. She was the pillar of the family and she loved us all, especially her husband Ed. They had an amazing partnership filled with love and devotion, which lasted 69 years. Loved by her daughters Cheryl Rubin, Alison Armitage (Mel) and Christine Nicholls (Grant). Predeceased by her son Hugh (1983). She was the proud grandmother of John Beatty (Emily), Jenny Lee Shee, Michelle Johnston (Dave), Becky Waldman (Haze), Beth Armitage (Colin Betts), Kate Marlow (Kurtis), Steve Armitage (Jennie), Scott Armitage, Mike Nicholls (Julie), and Jeff Nicholls (Erin Cicinelli). She was also the proud great-grandmother of 17 remarkable young people. She grew up in Welland and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a wireless operator during WW II. After she met Ed, the love of her life, they married and settled down in Peterborough. Many happy summers were spent at the cottage on Paudash Lake or travelling to Nova Scotia to visit family. Ed’s work took them to Montreal for 10 years, after which they returned to once again settle into a full and active life in Peterborough. Her most joyous memories were of family celebrations and events, playing bridge with friends, attending the theatre, and travelling with Ed around the world. Unfortunately, over the last two years, dementia slowly stole her beautiful mind. Thank you to Lakefield Extendicare for the excellent, compassionate care they provided for Libby over the last year. In accordance with her wishes, she has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday May 11, 2018 from 1-3 PM at HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd. Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a memorial donation of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com
