Lois Atkins Obituary

Lois Patricia Atkins ( O’Hara ) passed peacefully at her home in Peterborough
on March ,9 2019 after a short illness . In her 91st year Lois was predeceased in 1996 by her husband Victor her brothers Wilfred and Doyle and sister Isabelle ( Dewar ). She is survived by her sons Doug ( Denise ) Joe ( Vicki ) , Steve ( Julie ) and Gord ( Judy ) and her daughter Lori , her grandsons Cameron, Brian (Laura), Luke (Jennilee) and Benn (Emma) and her granddaughter Raine . Lois gave up her career as a legal secretary in 1953 to start a family and after stops in Toronto and Windsor they settled in Peterborough in 1960 . Over the next 58 years Lois ,blessed with boundless energy ,maintained a full schedule well beyond the daily challenges of raising five active children . Lois and Vic were active golfers and curlers at the PG&CC but she still found plenty of time over the years to serve on the Boards of among others ,the Peterborough Figure Skating Club , the IODE and the Summit Place Condominiums. Lois loved to get very involved when asked and her Never Take No for an Answer attitude served her well as she became a major contributor to the fundraising efforts of the Skating Club , the PMHC ,the IODE , Evinrude Arena  and the Peterborough Regional Health Centre to name a few . Since Vic’s passing Lois continued to travel and particularly enjoyed several warm weather cruises (often with one or more of her grandchildren) every winter as well as two or three trips a year to Las Vegas. Blessed with good health all of her life Lois achieved world class status as a wife and mother and certainly made the lives of those she touched better . The family would like to thank all of those care givers who helped keep Lois comfortable during her final days with particular mention to Dr Brian Lindsay and Lee -Anne Quinn. A private celebration of her wonderful life will take place this Spring.  In lieu of flowers, should you wish, you may donate to the Jumpstart charity or one of your choice.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
