Patricia Ellen Abbey was born 14 February 1932 in Coventry, England and died from advanced dementia on 08 November 2019 at Centennial Place, Millbrook. Pat was the second eldest child of Thomas How and Violet Goodchild. She was predeceased by both parents, her older sister Betty (1993), brothers Pete (2007) and Ed (2000). A deeply devoted mother, she was predeceased by her daughter Jill in 2005. Pat is survived by granddaughter Robyn Abbey and sister Valerie How.
Even though the disease diminished her mind and life, our memories of the real Pat became stronger and more cherished. She was warm, witty, intelligent and very creative. Pat’s creativity was an essential part of her life. Her knitting skills, from age 4, were valued by all who wore her creations, played with her beautifully crafted toys, appreciated her needlework and savoured her cooking.
Pat’s quirky and sharp sense of humour showed a keen observation of people and some of her hilarious descriptions have become part of our family vocabulary. Pat’s warmth and wit touched many lives and she is fondly remembered by family & friends when they recall shared times. Pat loved Robyn unconditionally and Robyn was the centre of her world. We will miss Pat until the end of our lives.
As Pat wished, cremation has taken place and at a later date, a private family burial will take place at Jill’s grave, completing the circle of Pat’s life. If desired, donations in Pat’s memory can be made to Lakefield Animal Welfare Society to further her love of animals, especially dogs. Lakefieldanimalwelfare.org
