MALONEY, Rita (nee Walsh)

Peacefully at Extendicare Peterborough on Tuesday November 19, 2019 in her 98th year. Born on March 14, 1922, on the Walsh family-farm homestead in Asphodel township, the oldest daughter of Stafford and Ellen Walsh (nee Herr). She moved to Peterborough to meet and marry the love of her life the late George Maloney. There with George, she lovingly raised Michael (Gail), Diane Gifford (Jack) and Marilyn Self (Roger). Lovingly remembered by her siblings Joseph Walsh (the late Teresa) and Theresa Patterson (the late Roy) being predeceased by her youngest sister Pauline Silverthorne. Predeceased by her first grandchild Sarah Maloney (stillborn), she proudly delighted in grandchildren Martha (Edward), Clare (James), Michael (Katie), Matthew (Leeann), Mark (Maureen), and great-grandchildren Presley, Lola, Finneas, Hayden and James. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Harold Maloney (the late Helen), Father Frank Maloney CSsR, Raymond Maloney (Jeanette) and sister-in-law Sister Lucille Maloney CSJ. Rita took pride in the interior and exterior appearance of her home, in particular, her front-yard flower gardens. She enjoyed baking fruit pies and cakes, being forever remembered for her delicious ice-box Christmas cookies and mouth-watering butter tarts. A Memorial Mass will be held later, in the spring, to celebrate Rita’s life. Arrangements to be announced at a later date.
