Stewart William Jewell

May 31, 1927 ~ May 4, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

JEWELL, Stewart William- May 31, 1927 – May 4, 2017

Our beloved Dad and Poppa passed away peacefully, after many courageous challenges for which he never complained. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, especially daughters, Nancy McLean (Bill) and Laurie, grandchildren, Elizabeth Wren (Jesse), Michael, and Christine, and great grandchildren, Isobel, Lachlan, Alwyn and Aiden.  He had a quiet gentle presence, and his quirky sense of humour, though sometimes unexpected, always made us laugh.  Dad was a jack of all trades, as a wood carver, stain glass maker, plumber, electrician, carpenter and painter.  He succeeded in all things.  In retirement, he curled and lawn bowled, winning many tournaments.  This competitive and determined nature aided his journey in later life.  Quiet moments bird watching in his back yard, or sitting on the dock at a cottage were simple pleasures he enjoyed, as well as the greater ones travelling with Loretta.  But the greatest joy of all was spending time with friends and the family he was so proud of. Stew was born and raised in Peterborough, the second of four children of Richard (Bill) Jewell and Dora McCracken.  He is survived by brothers Norman (Dorothy d.) and Clifford (Betty), and predeceased by his sister Doreen Bond (Don d.) He is also survived by brother in law Gordon Lorenz (Norene) and Pamela Enfield Lorenz (Jim d.) Loretta was the love of his life, and they were married for almost 65 years.  He lost her December 30, 2015 and his life was never the same. Mom waited for him in Heaven so they will be together again. His four legged buddy Seamus will miss his Poppa greatly, and feels his loss as we do.  The two formed an unshakeable bond that was a delight to witness. A mass will take place at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, 859 Barnardo Avenue, Peterborough, on Thursday May 11, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation is 1 hour prior at 10:00 am with Father Stan Witczak officiating. Interment at Highland Park Cemetery with reception to follow at the Highland Park Reception Centre. If you would like to make a donation, Stew would be pleased if you would find a charity close to your heart.  Please also be patient and kind to people because no one knows the path they follow.

Toodaloo!
