Ahern - Elizabeth Ann "Betty Ann" (nee Cavanagh)
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Ann "Betty Ann"Ahern (nee Cavanagh) who passed away peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the age of 82, following a courageous battle with cancer. Betty Ann was the daughter of the late William Cavanagh and Opal Driscoll and sister to the late Ron Cavanagh( Barb). Betty Ann was the beloved wife of the late David Ahern, 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Betty Ann was a devoted and cherished mother of Kim Ahern (late Gerry Mason), Debbie Wainman (Mark), David Ahern (Debbie) and Greg Ahern (Nicole). Betty Ann was a proud and deeply loved nana of Sarah (Mike), Zack (Carly), Braeden (Marissa),Josh (Emma), Amanda (Joe), Nicholas (Olivia), Taylor (Evan), Payton and Tyson and treasured great nana of Kai, Lainey and Lennon.
Betty Ann's love extended far beyond her immediate family. Betty Ann was the sister-in-law to Mary Lou Clark (late Lew) and the late Brian Ahern (Karen). A loving aunt to the Cavanagh, Clark and the Ahern families. She will be deeply missed by her many cousins, extended nieces and nephews and countless others who knew her. Betty Ann spent 30 years working at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, a chapter of her life that she remembered fondly, with many happy memories. Betty Ann had a strong and unwavering faith and was a long standing member of the Cathedral of Saint Peter-In-Chains. Above all Betty Ann was about family. Betty Ann never missed an occasion, sporting event, horse race, or show. Supporting the people she loved was never a question for Betty Ann, it was simply who she was. Her home was always open, a cup of tea waiting, and some homemade squares. She had a way of making each person feel as though they were her favourite. Her strength and determination were remarkable, and she carried both with her right until the very end. There will never be enough words to express the heartache of losing her as she has woven into every part of our lives.
God bless you Mom. Thank you, Mom and Dad for being the most wonderful, kind loving, supportive parents and grandparents. The love and guidance you gave us will stay with us always. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Fruhshuck and the Palliative Care nurses at PRHC for their wonderful compassionate care and the kindness shown to Betty Ann and her family during the final days.
