FITZGERALD, Brian Joseph Stephen passed away peacefully with family at his side at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 in his 77th year. Brian, loving and devoted husband of 50 years to Maria (Battaglini). Proud father of Kevin (Lauren), and Garrett (Kimberly) Fitzgerald. Cherished Nonno (Grandfather) of Loghan, Owen, Aidan, and Alaina Fitzgerald. Brother-in-law of the late Fr. Gio Battaglini (d. 2001), and Kevin Battaglini, Alberta. Dear uncle of Mitchell, Ryan, Christina and Colton Battaglini, Alberta. Predeceased by his parents Vincent Fitzgerald (1975) and Helen Weatherhead (1977). Nephew of the late Rev. Sr. Modesta and Rev. Sr. St. Raymond. A teacher with the PVNCCDSSB for 35 years until his retirement in 1999, Brian inspired his students to achieve their full potential particularly in Art, Penmanship, and History. He was an avid baseball and horseshoe player, loved a good game of billiards, loved fast cars and car racing especially in his 1968 Burgundy/Black Roadrunner. He studied piano and tenor saxophone, was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Cathedral Choir and loved Doo Whop!. His passions included art, spoiling the family pets, gardening and hosting the annual ‘Neighbourhood Doo’ for 22 years. The family extends sincere thanks to all Doctors and staff of PRHC and InspiAIR, Dr. A. Katheravelu, Dr. V. Geetke, all Prayer Warriors, and the St. Peter’s Cathedral clergy for their compassionate care and support during Brian’s declining health. Visitation will take place at Highland Park Funeral Centre on Thursday, November 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass in the Cathedral of St.Peter-In-Chains on Friday at 10:00am. followed by a reception in Bishop Doyle Hall and interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery. In his memory, donations to St. Peter’s Cathedral Renovation Fund, the Peterborough Humane Society or Autism Canopy Support Service, Peterborough would be appreciated by his family.
