It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cameron Neil Richard Dewar on July 11, 2025, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Cherished son of Doug and Jennifer Dewar and loved by his sister Tammy Hartford (David), and nephew Liam.
Cam was born in Peterborough on October 28, 1977, and lived an active life until a tragic bicycle accident left him a quadriplegic in 1996. However, with tremendous support of family and friends Cam has proudly lived in his own home. His positive attitude and strong will allowed him to open up opportunities and activities he could do on his own and with his friends; including attending concerts, fishing, camping, and lots of partying. Prior to his accident, Cam enjoyed water skiing and fishing on Chemong lake where he lived, hockey, downhill skiing, golf, biking, soccer, spending time on the farm with his best friends, and volunteering with the Peterborough Petes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough, on Saturday, July 26, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. A time of reflection and open mic tributes will begin at 3 p.m. It was Cameron’s wish to be cremated and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario or Five Counties Children’s Centre (Peterborough) would be appreciated by the family.
