Douglas Donat DeMara

Douglas Donat DeMara (Nov 11,1935 - Nov 23, 2025) passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Hospice House surrounded by his loved ones. Husband of the late Leona English. He will be greatly missed by his children Ken DeMara (Janis), Karen Sage (Doug), Shirley DeMara, Steve DeMara (Halina), Bruce DeMara, Lanace DeMara (John), his 10 grandchildren and their families Nygel, Kyle, Tyler, Troy, Bryan, Krysta, Harley, Keli, Kevin and Alicia as well as 12 great grandchildren.

Doug was a proud veteran of the Korean war and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He proudly marched annually in the Remembrance Day parades with his sons and grandsons by his side. He met his wife Leona in Orillia where they married in June of 1954. Moving to Peterborough in 1962 to raise a family and work as a television technician for Peterborough Lectron. They enjoyed traveling together and later spent their winters in Florida. He was a self-made man, and with a thirst for knowledge, could fix or build anything. He was very generous, if you needed his help, he was there for you. Later, he became a district manager for Camco, from where he retired. They spent their time at the cottage and later called it home where they became part of the Ennismore community. Many celebrations took place over the years at the lake with good food, music and games, memories that will be cherished by family, friends and neighbours. He stayed in his home until the end; there was no other place he wanted to be. He will be missed!

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 29th from 2-4 p.m. at HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Peterborough Hospice House or a charity of your choice.
