With sadness, yet peace, we announce the passing of Douglas Irwin Hanes on April 28, 2025.
Born in Peterborough on December 16, 1947, he is pre-deceased by his parents Irwin and Laura, and siblings Gord, Glen, Lee and Joyce.
Beloved husband to Kate, Father to Ryan, Adam and Marc, Grandfather to Isaac, Rowan, Atticus, Callah, Cameron and Aiden.
Doug was a sports enthusiast from a young age. A love for hockey, soccer and basketball gave way to football, pool and a passion for bowling in his later years.
One of Doug’s great pleasures was playing cards with family and friends. As many can attest, you typically left these card games with Doug with less money than you started with.
Doug was a ferocious competitor. He lived hard and wrung every last drop of life out of his failing body.
Doug was an original and will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. K. Wilson, Dr. B. Hughes, Dr. C. Matheson and the staff at Hospice Peterborough.
Donations in memory of Doug can be made to Hospice Peterborough. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com
