Smith, Douglas Lenard - We are heartbroken to share the passing of our irreplaceable father and grandfather. Doug passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 77. Dad faced a variety of health issues over the past two years and met every challenge with courage, strength, and positivity. He will be missed beyond measure by his daughter Lori and her husband Frank Heffernan, and son Jeff Smith and his wife Bobbie. A very present, loving and fun grandfather, ‘Poppa’ will always be remembered by Hayleigh and Faith Heffernan and Cole Smith, as well as his honourary grandchildren, Dylan, Alyssa and Tyler Ivankovic. Doug was predeceased by his wife of 44 years Jean (Allen) Smith in 2016 and partner Shirley Orr in 2023, his parents Kenneth and Margaret (Hayes) Smith, brother Bryan, and brother-in-law Neil Allen. He is survived by his brothers Kenny (Anne) and Steve (Cheryl), as well as his sister-in-law Erna Allen, and brother-in-law and friend Richard Allen, as well as his nieces and nephews. His memory will especially be cherished by his niece Ashleigh Allen. Friends and family will always reflect on Doug’s dancing skills, expert sports analysis, car knowledge, love for the casino and scratch tickets and fabulous storytelling capabilities, and remember him with a smile. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Doug’s life at Highland Park Funeral Centre for a Celebration of Life Reception on Tuesday, July 8th from 5:00-8:00. Words of remembrance will be shared at 6:30. Donations can be made in his memory to The Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
