In loving memory of Dr Joseph C.W. Muise, D.V.M.
Dr. Joseph Clifford William Muise, D.V.M., a generous, loving, and caring father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and talented veterinarian, born December 4, 1956 in Picton, Ontario passed away on January 26, 2026, in Millbrook, Ontario in his 69th year.
Joe will be greatly missed by his spouse/partner Barb Bunker, stepdaughter Lyndsay Bunker Dominiques (Mark and their children Nathan & Owen), son Michael Muise, daughter Rachel Muise (and her children Myah and Hope), in-laws Bill Bunker, Jim (Lili) Bunker, Sandy Bronson (David Hobbs). Joe was predeceased by his father CWO Fred Muise and mother Mary Muise (nee Gaudet). The extended pet family of Twin Pines Alpacas includes the many cats, guardian dogs, and alpacas (aka The Crew).
Dr Joe touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, and compassionate heart. He possessed an uncanny ability to connect with anyone. His clever wit and humour added to his unique storytelling abilities which would captivate his audience. Many would walk away wondering if the stories were true – they were!
Dr Joe’s love of animals started young as he worked with his father on their dairy farm in Picton, Ontario. It continued as he pursued his degree in agricultural science at Kemptville College and furthered his education in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Guelph. Dr Joe continued his professional education by achieving advanced training and certifications in laparoscopic, endoscopic, and specialized orthopedic surgery. Dr Joe mentored new veterinarians and was always open to teach others. Dr Joe’s career spanned over 40 years. The majority of his professional practice occurred at Peterborough Pet Hospital which he owned and operated. He was a talented small animal surgeon at heart, with a passion for veterinary medicine that never waned. Dr Joe always said, “love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life.”
Joe thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. To name a few, whether it was drag racing; boating the Trent Severn; riding motorcycles cross country from eastern Canada to Wyoming; growing the best orchard grass hay; enjoying his sports cars; driving tractors; or diving the waters of the Caribbean, North Atlantic, or South Pacific – he enjoyed life.
Joe with his partner Barb, returned to his roots in agriculture and established Twin Pines Alpacas Farm & Fibre Mill. Together they raised Huacaya Alpacas for fleece production and expanded their farm operations to include textile manufacturing which continues today. Most recently Joe thoroughly enjoyed his time with family and friends down east.
In keeping with Dr. Joe’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunnybrook Schulich Heart Program in his memory.
Dr. Joe had a life well-lived.
