It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Bernice Buck (née Jordan), who passed away on September 9, 2026.
Born on March 30, 1955, in Toronto, Eleanor built a beautiful life centred around the people she loved most. Since 1987, Peterborough had been home, where she and her beloved husband and partner in crime, Alex Buck, built their life together and raised their three wonderful children. Eleanor and Alex shared 49 years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and a lifetime of memories.
Eleanor was the proud and loving mother of Rachel (Ryan, affectionately known as “Ry Guy”), Jordan (Alex), and Ryan (Marissa). Her family were at the heart of her world, and she was immeasurably proud of the people they became.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elma Jordan (née McKeown) and John Jordan, her stepmother, Lorna Jordan, her beloved siblings, Nancy and Jack. Eleanor leaves behind her loving siblings Leona, Joe, and Sandra, as well as many family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Throughout her career, Eleanor was a dedicated professional, working as a Legal Secretary, Court Reporter, and Authorized Court Transcriptionist before retiring in 2019. She took pride in her work and brought the same determination and strength to her career that she brought to every other part of her life.
Eleanor will be remembered for her incredible sense of humour, kindness, generosity, and strength, but most of all for the way she made people feel. She will be remembered for the immense love she had for her family. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and memories—and perhaps some of the best were made during her late-night dance parties in the kitchen. Those moments, filled with music, laughter, and her unmistakable spirit, are memories her family will carry with them forever.
Eleanor and Alex also poured their hearts into creating a backyard oasis, transforming their home into a place where family and friends loved to gather. It became a little piece of paradise—a place to sit back, share a drink, tell stories, laugh, and enjoy one another’s company. Their home was never simply a house; it was a gathering place, and Eleanor made sure there was always room for one more.
Over the years, Eleanor and Alex shared many adventures together, including their treasured time in Cuba. The sunshine, the laughter, and the opportunity to simply enjoy life together made those trips especially meaningful. Eleanor had a remarkable ability to connect with people wherever she went. She was treated like royalty by the staff in Cuba, a fitting testament to the kindness and care she showed to everyone around her. She made people feel valued, and they returned that affection wholeheartedly.
Eleanor leaves behind more than memories—she leaves behind a lasting example of how to love fiercely, laugh often, give generously, and make people feel at home. Her spirit lives on in her husband, her children, her siblings, and in all those whose lives she touched.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided to Eleanor and her family during her final days. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort during an incredibly difficult time and will always be deeply appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Cancer Care at PRHC Foundation in Eleanor’s memory.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever dancing in our hearts. Never forgotten.
