MONDRIA, Elisabeth Maria (nee Hengartner): Passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 in her 97th year.
Elisabeth was the youngest of six children born to Klara and Meinard Hengartner on a farm in Bernhardzell, Switzerland. She was the devoted wife of the late Albartus Mondria (Bert +2003). She is survived by her six children; John (Judy), Willem (Mariann), Elizabeth (Brian), Linda (Billy), Brian (Heather), Ingrid (Erman +2022), as well as eighteen Grandchildren and twenty three Great Grandchildren. Elisabeth married Albartus in 1956 in the Netherlands and then immediately immigrated to Canada (Whitby, Ontario) where she and Bert raised six children. Elisabeth enjoyed the last forty years of her life in the home they built themselves on their property north of Norwood. It was there, in the quiet beauty of nature that she enjoyed gardening, puzzling, sewing, knitting, cooking and baking for the many visits from family and friends. We are especially grateful for the final months of her life with us. We were honoured to love and assist her during her physical decline. This gift of time with her, in her own home, gave each of us a deeper appreciation for all the years of faith, love and life she gave to us. Memories of mom (and ‘Pa’) live on in our hearts forever. Just like a flower needs nourishment to thrive and grow, so too does love. Mom nourished all of us abundantly and we are forever grateful. We send our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Blake and his team, Nurse Lisa, Paramedic Glen, Monica and all the other nurses and PSW’s from Nightingale and St. Elizabeth, who assisted mom and supported in caring for her at home. Visitation will take place at Highland Park Funeral Centre on Saturday, January 3 from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Funeral Service in Highland Chapel at 12:00 noon. Pastor Kirk Goodman officiating followed by a light luncheon. Those unable to attend Elisabeth's service in person can view it Live Streamed by visiting this website and clicking on the link that will be made available. Interment Norwood Cemetery. In her memory, and in lieu of flowers, donations to World Vision would be appreciated by her family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com
