Greg Sperry
April 27, 1965 - February 5, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Greg Sperry announce his sudden passing at the age of 59. Greg was out doing one of the things he loved the most, riding the Quebec trails with a group of friends, when he suffered a fatal, cardiac event. He will be agonizingly missed by his wife and life partner of the last 39 years, Kim, and forever cherished by his children Michael (Chloe) and Sarah (David). Greg is also survived by his father, Gilbert, sisters Kathy (Mark), Wendy (John) and Deborah, mother-in-law Mary Syvret, brother-in-law Rob, nephews Drew (Meghan) and Josh (Ho-Yeon), niece Shayleigh (Dawson) and all of his sweet great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Shirley, step-mother Joyce and father-in-law Bob.
Greg was both well-known and well-loved in our local community. As the proud owner of Sperry Contracting for the last 25 years, he has made a profound impact on the lives of many. His employees, the tradespeople he worked with, his customers - all use words such as “great guy, easy-going, best ever” to describe him. Greg would do literally anything, for anyone. Many nights he would get an evening phone call from someone and he would be dressed and running out the door to fix a leak, lend a generator, or patch a roof without a second thought. The amount of lives he touched in just his everyday work life is incredible. Greg also had many friendships that were so very important to him, both here and in Nova Scotia. There have been many stories and memories shared over the last few days that speak to his character and the total dedication that he had towards others, and that has been much appreciated by his family.
While he was so much to so many, Greg’s priority first and foremost was always his family. He would do absolutely anything for Kim, Michael and Sarah. He never complained, never got angry or raised a voice, was never impatient. They feel his love in absolutely everything he has ever done for them, and everywhere they look now, a part of him is just “there.” There are no words to describe how his loss will affect his family. He will forever be their beloved husband and dad.
It is important that his family acknowledge Gord, Barry, Kevin, Liam, Lyle and John, his sled buddies, who looked after him until the very end on a beautiful, cold day; the unknown rider, who stopped to help them in every way he could; his nephew Drew, who dropped everything to take Kim, Michael and Sarah on a long, hard journey to the Quebec mountains and back so they could say their final good-bye.
The family appreciates the outpouring of love they have been given. We welcome you to visit with the family at HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, on Thursday, February 13th from 5-8 PM or at a Celebration of Greg’s Life on Friday, February 14th at 2 PM. We would ask that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation to The Peterborough Humane Society, as Greg loved his furry friends.
