CHUN, J. Lloyd (MCIC Retired Chemist from General Electric)
Passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Thursday, July 10, 2025 in his 89th year. Loving father of John Chun (Donna), Toylene Chun, Lawana Chun-Turner and Monica Pantalone (Tony). Cherished grandfather of Michael, Daniel, Heather (Chuck), Emily (Kyle), Robert, Aurelia (Tony) and Raquel and great grandfather of Eleanor “Nora” and Scottie. Dear brother of Jack Lynn Chun. Sadly missed by his partner Carolee Brown, her daughter Jessica (Tom), and their child Reina and by his many nieces and nephews and extended family. Lloyd was predeceased by his former wife and long-time friend Helen Chun and by five sisters and three brothers.
Lloyd spent his early years in The Pas, Manitoba where he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He attended McGill University in Montreal, moved west to Alberta for a short while, but eventually called Peterborough home for over sixty years where he and Helen raised their four children. Together, they taught them the value of hard work and that with determination, anything is possible.
Lloyd was a professional member of the Chemical Institute of Canada; served on the Board and was president of the Canadian Society for Chemical and Biochemical Technology. Although he had a passion for chemistry and was a dedicated employee with Canadian General Electric for over 25 years, he will be best remembered as a landlord, proprietor of Unicell Storage and an entrepreneur with a trained eye and a keen business spirit.
There will be a graveside service held at HIGHLAND PARK CEMETERY, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Reception to follow in the Highland Park funeral Centre. In memory of Lloyd, donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com
