It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John A. MacDonald on October 25 2024 with his loving Partner by his side.
John was a devoted, caring and loving partner to Gladys and a cherished dear friend to all her family.
Beloved father of Jasen (Janice) MacDonald, and cherished “Papa” to Kaylin and Julia.
John is dearly missed by his furry friend Jessie.
John grew up in a bustling household in Scarborough, in a home his dad built. Growing up as the youngest boy of eight children, his life was filled with laughter and love.
He learned the value of hard work by accompanying his father to build the family cottage where countless memories were made.
Predeceased by his parents Rita and Philip MacDonald. Lovingly remembered by 7 siblings, Mary (Peter) Brimacombe, Brian MacDonald, Theresa (the late Peter) Panayotou, Steven (Judy Robertson) MacDonald, Jeanne (Brian) Bridgwater, Gary (Denise) MacDonald and Rita (Rick) Marks.
Fun Uncle John to 17 nieces and nephews
In 1984, alongside his late wife Jill, John co-founded JMC Pallets. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication turned the small business into al company that provided for his family and community. In 2001, Jasen and Janice took the reins, renaming it JJ Pallet, and continued the proud tradition he started. John’s heart was full knowing that the family business he built could carry forward, a legacy of his hard work and passion.
John shared many wonderful years with his longtime partner, the late Heather (“Mema”), Together, they created lasting memories for their grandchildren, Kaylin and Julia—days spent fishing, evenings around the card table, the special trips to Toronto, and countless family dinners that ended with everyone gathered to watch Papa’s latest favourite show.
Known for his humour and love of simple pleasures, John found happiness on frozen lakes, ice fishing with friends and family, sharing jokes around a crackling fire, and traveling to Florida in his motorhome, where he made countless memories on the open road. Known for his love of card games, he was always ready with a warm laugh and a winning hand.
Though he has left this world, his spirit remains with us. John will be missed and loved always, and his memory will live on in the family and friends he held dear and the business he built with pride.
John will also be dearly missed within the Euchre Community throughout Peterborough and the County.
Friends and Family are invited to celebrate Johns life on Sunday December 1st from 1-4pm at the Lakefield Legion.
