John Edwin Davis

June 5, 1944 ~ May 13, 2025 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Obituary

John (Jack) Edwin Davis, 80, of the Peterborough ON area, passed peacefully May 13th, 2025 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre with immediate family by his side and Merle Haggard serenading in the background.

John is predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 yrs, Margaret Lillie Davis (nee Larke) who sadly passed in April of 2021. They married on her 18th birthday.

In 1976 John and Margaret moved to Warsaw and raised their family on Caves Road for 35 yrs. They moved to Peterborough where they resided at Castlewood Place until her passing. John had been residing at Auburn Village on Armour Rd where he was an active resident often helping other tenants and the Management Team whenever possible, John was a giver.

John’s work experiences included: manufacturing at Bata Shoes in Brampton, manufacturing components supplied to Ford of Canada in Dundalk, Contracting at Cannaught Homes and John Newman Contracting in Peterborough,  he also started an Aluminum Siding business before the recession, Indusmin Mines, Paris Marine and Flying Colours and various others building a portfolio that would lead him to excel at The Home Depot in Peterborough, fellow employees and countless customers appreciated John’s knowledge, many seeking him out for advice. John received countless awards over his 20 year tenure which ended in 2023.

John’s many hobbies included hunting, fishing, hockey, baseball, curling, cards, car races, billiards and darts. Throughout his life, John was very passionate about his beloved Montreal Canadiens and the mighty Maroon and White. He’s attended countless Petes games and been a season’s ticket holder for years along with his son and grandson.    

John was the second son of predeceased parents Everett Thomas Davis and Evelyn Clara Davis (nee Dafoe) of the Havelock/Nephton area, survived by sister Doris Lowry (Phil) of Peterborough, brother to Steven Davis (Jeannie) of Lakefield and predeceased by his brothers Eric and Bernie Davis and sister Arlene Newman.

John/Jack’s eyes always lit up with pride whenever he was with any of his 3 surviving children - John Davis (Julie) of Ennismore, Deborah Murdock (Stephen) of Peterborough, Jacqueline Davis (Daryl) of Peterborough, 8 grandchildren - Justun Faubert (Stephanie), Jordan Murdock (Kaitlyn), Kyle Faubert (Katherine), Samantha Murdock (Tyler), Alicea Boyle (Dylan), Olivia Davis, Spencer Davis, Hillary Davis and 8 great grandchildren - Leah, Cayleigh, Holly, Norah and Abigail Murdock, Bailie and Waylon Boyle, and Jack Faubert.  

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 7th at the Lakefield Curling Club at 12 Nicholls St in Lakefield ON from 1-4pm to honour John’s memory. The facility is accessible for those with disabilities, family, friends and guests are all welcome to join us for a time of reflection and laughter. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the PRHC Foundation.

The families would like to thank the PRHC surgical team who worked on John/Jack, including an incredible ICU nursing staff of Ryan, Deb, Tori, Sami, Wanda, Jami, Mary and many others who oversaw John/Jack’s care. Your compassion will remain in our memories.

The entire family is truly grateful for the love and support of friends and extended families they have received navigating this difficult time.
