John Francis Gouett
February 2nd, 1939 – September 22nd, 2025
We announce with great sadness the passing of John Gouett who died peacefully on September 22nd at Hospice Peterborough at the age of 86. We remember John as a proud grandfather, father and devoted husband.
John was married to Patricia for 63 years. He was the loving father of Lawrence and John-Paul, grandfather of Michael, Peter, Julia, Arthur and Beatrice and father-in-law to Natacha and Lisa.
He is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Velma and his brother Marshall.
John grew up in Long Branch in Toronto and later moved to Midland Ontario where he met his future wife Patricia.
He was passionate about higher education and completed training at Centennial College (1968), London Teacher’s College (1970), University of Western Ontario (1972) and Queens University (M. Ed Degree 1974).
In 1974, John founded the Canadian Oldtimers Hockey Association as a national body responsible for programs and services for Oldtimer hockey clubs across Canada. He travelled the world bringing 1000’s of players to major tournaments in Amsterdam, Zurich, Copenhagen, Tokyo and beyond.
In 2009 John was inducted into the Penetanguishene Hall of Fame as a Builder and in 2013 he was placed in the Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Hall of Fame.
John and Patricia raised their two boys in Peterborough and spent the last 38 years on their beautiful Christmas Tree Farm in Bethany Ontario.
John was an innovator, idea generator and a man who took action on his many dreams. He is a testament to following through on your passions in life and always finding a solution and way forward.
He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life on October 18th at the Highland Park Funeral Centre in Peterborough (2510 Bensfort Road).
The Visitation is from 10:30 to 11:00 AM and there will be a celebration service from 11:00 to 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations to Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated by the family.
