At the age of 44, John Carter passed into the loving arms of his Savior on January 22, 2025 surrounded by the love of family and friends. A son, a brother, an uncle, a father, a husband, and a friend, John will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind. After receiving a BSc (Honours) in biochemistry with a minor in mathematics from the University of Toronto, he went on to start and manage a successful housing business from 2007-2016. Although faced with numerous health challenges, John remained relentlessly positive and productive. In recent years he published several books, including two children's books and a book on personal finance to the glory of God, "Good With Money: A Brief Christian Guide to Financial Stewardship." In his final weeks he was still writing away, completing a fractions textbook for children.
John was many things — a carpenter, a writer, an artist, a sage, a scientist, a chess enthusiast — but even a long list of his achievements would fail to capture John as he would have wished to be remembered. More than likely he would have rebuked us for even attempting it. If you had asked John who he was, he would have answered instantly and unequivocally: "A follower of Jesus." For John, and for those who knew him, this wasn't simply a matter of passing biographical interest. It was this reality that added weight and urgency to everything he said and did. He is survived by his loving parents Eleanor and Nick, his sister Christine (Florian Hoefner), as well as his devoted wife Sheila and their son James, who take comfort in the fact that they will one day see him again, whole and happy.
Please join us in celebrating John's life on Friday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at Westmount Bible Chapel, 1150 Clonsilla Ave, Peterborough, Ontario. A reception will follow immediately after the service, as well as a private family interment at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kawartha Classical Christian School or any of the homeless organizations in Peterborough.
