O’KEEFE, John James
(Retired Assistant Foreman, Outboard Marine; Member of the Knights of Columbus Ernest J. Wolff Council #798; Charter Member, Sir Knight Aubrey Allen Assembly #2571)
Peacefully, at Hospice Peterborough, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, in his 87th year, John James O’Keefe entered into eternal rest. Beloved husband of Charlane O’Keefe (née Girard) for 66 wonderful years. Cherished father of Janine Wanjon (Adriaan), Deanna Heffernan (Dave), John O’Keefe (Shannon), and Terry O’Keefe. Proud grandfather of twelve and great-grandfather of twenty-six, John’s greatest joy was the family he and Charlane built together. John will be remembered for his warm, fun-loving spirit and his quick wit. A natural jokester, he had a remarkable gift for making people laugh and bringing joy into even the simplest moments. He cherished time spent with family, especially gatherings filled with stories, laughter and a cold beer in hand. Those who knew him best will agree that John would want everyone to raise a glass in his honour, sharing fond memories and a smile, just as he always did. Predeceased by his parents Hubert O’Keefe and Lucille O’Keefe (née Trembley), his sister Rosemond Eakins, and his brother Francis O’Keefe. He will be fondly remembered by extended family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him. Friends will be received at the Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, on Tuesday from 4:00–7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains, 411 Reid Street, Peterborough. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall. In memory of John, and in lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated by the family.
