It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathy Richlark, who died peacefully with her kids at her side on July 7, 2025, at the age of 69. Born and raised in Peterborough, Kathy called this community home for most of her life.
Kathy was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, cherished sister, and loyal friend. She will be dearly missed by her children: Heathyr Francis; Mike & Ashleigh Francis and their daughters Charlotte, Adelaide, and Penelope; and Theresa Francis & Luke White and their daughter Jade. Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Arlene & John Richlark, and leaves behind her loving siblings: Merri (Bob), Jo (Dean), Peter, (Suzin), and Paul (Lori) and many nieces and nephews. She was a life-long friend to Bob Francis, Debra Mcewan, Debbie McKellar, and many others lucky enough to share in her laughter.
For over 30 years, Kathy worked as a psychiatric nurse at PRHC, known for seeing the best in her patients and supporting her coworkers with compassion and candor. True to her nickname, “Chatty Kathy,” she loved a good conversation, never shying away from tough topics. A life-long learner, she earned her undergraduate degree at Trent University one course at a time over decades. Reading, writing, numeracy, and thinking critically were at the heart of who she was. She loved to laugh and always enjoyed sharing a joke or humorous situation. She will be remembered always for her laughter, her spirited conversations, and her unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.
Kathy kept her hands busy making crafts for the people she loved, and her heart was happiest near the water she cherished — living on the shores of the Trent-Severn Waterway for nearly 40 years. She gave back generously through volunteer work, inspiring a sense of duty, belonging, and community wherever she went.
To honor Kathy’s legacy, please consider supporting causes close to her heart: Camp Northern Lights or TRACKS Youth Program — or simply brighten a young skateboarder’s day with a cold drink.
A celebration will be held at a later date with immediate friends and family.
