Kathleen "Kathie" (Rees) Martin

Kathleen “Kathie” or “GG” Martin (nee Rees) was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother during her incredible 81 years of life. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in the early hours of Friday, February 20, 2026.

We will remember Kathie for her loving nature, her creativity, her spunk, her occasional, endearing stubbornness and her love of “bling”. She was the queen of all things sparkle.

Kathie had a long and full life. She was born on December 30, 1944, in Niagara Falls, ON, to loving parents, Alexander and Irene Rees. She is predeceased by her siblings, Don, Doreen (Olie), Karen and Rick (Suzette).

Kathie met the love of her life, Henri Claude Martin (predeceased), at a dance in 1963. They married soon after and had three beautiful children, Suzette (Johnny B), Annette (Jeff), and John (Wendy). She was a wonderful grandmother to four grandchildren, Alexandria (Tyler), Keyan (Courtney), Andrew (Elizabeth), and Brittany (Stefano). And great grandmother (“GG”) to eight loving grandchildren, Claire, Aubrey, Evan, Jack, Joseph, Elliot, Grayson and Caiden.

GG and Berger never missed a single hockey game and were our biggest fans. They spoiled all of us at every birthday and Christmas and always made sure to have our favourite foods on hand for when we visited. They were the best grandparents and we were so lucky to have been the centre of their world.

Kathie had an amazing relationship with all of her extended family members as well as Henri’s eight siblings and all their families she was a wonderful friend to many. GG was loved by all who were lucky enough to know her. Her passing will leave a hole in many lives but she will live forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life will follow in the next few months as per Kathie’s request. Donations in Kathie’s name can be made to Hospice Peterborough. Hospice provided amazing support through this difficult time.
