It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kelvin John Hutchison on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from his courageous battle with cancer. A beloved resident of Catchacoma Lake in Trent Lakes, Kelvin touched the lives of many and left a lasting mark on all who met him.
Kelvin will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 31 years, Christine and his children, Shane (Kristy), Tanya (Blair), Amber, and Karly, and is predeceased by his son, Adam. His memory will live on through his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jada, Brianna, Courtney, Hayley, Nolan, Phoebe and Bennett and his great-grandchildren, Mya, Layla, Alyssa, and Tommy.
Kelvin is survived by his mother, Joan Little and his siblings, Thelma, Cheryl, George, and Andrew, and is predeceased by his brother, Dennis and sister, Candace.
Kelvin’s life was one of resilience, laughter, and boundless love for his family. He was born on October 3, 1959 in Toronto, Ontario. Kelvin’s early years were filled with movement and change, but two things remained constant: his love for music and his knack for tinkering. With a guitar in hand and a curious mind that delighted in fixing and building, it was no surprise that he found his calling as an Industrial Millwright. Over the years, he worked for various employers, though much of his career was spent at Jet Moulding (BBI), where he earned not only respect for his skill but also lifelong friendships. Known as a trickster and joker, Kelvin brought lightness and laughter wherever he went. He spent much of his young adult life finding adventure and never backing down from a proposed dare. When Kelvin entered his mid twenties, the fun-loving young man that everyone knew traded in his mischievous ways for a more settled life when he married his wife, Jane. From then on family became the center of his world and he immediately embraced her two children, Shane and Tanya as his own. Together, they welcomed Amber, their beautiful baby girl into the world and for three wonderful years they made memories and shared so much love. Unfortunately, life can be cruel, and Jane was diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, she succumbed to her battle with cancer and passed away. Becoming a single dad of three, Kelvin pushed through his heartbreak and took on the greatest challenge of his life with strength and unwavering devotion.
In December of 1994, Kelvin’s life took an unexpected beautiful turn when he met Christine, a kind and charismatic single mom to Adam and Karly. The two were brought together courtesy of a blind date and immediately bonded over their similar ability to overcome adversity and the importance of family. They became inseparable and merged their young families into their forever family. Kelvin cherished his role as a father and had no use for words such as, “biological” or “step.” His kids were his kids and he poured his heart and soul into raising them. He was their biggest cheerleader, and was often found behind the bench coaching their hockey teams or simply clapping from the stands. Through early morning practices, weekend tournaments or baseball games, one thing remained consistent, he was always there. He became their mentor and their friend, never judging or critiquing but instead guiding them through life’s ups and downs. He instilled the importance of acknowledging, owning and correcting one’s mistakes in life and the power to overlook, forgive and love unconditionally. Though his role as a parent was life changing and rewarding, he soon learned that his role as a Grandpa was indescribable. His grandchildren and great grandchildren became the lights of his life, each one “spoiled rotten” in the best way possible.
In 2018, Kelvin embraced early retirement and he and Chris settled into their dream home on Catchacoma Lake. Their cottage became a hub of joy, laughter, and family gatherings. Kelvin spent his days building guitars, fixing anything that needed fixing, helping all who needed it, taking long walks with his best friend Dakota and welcoming family and friends with his signature warmth throughout the summer days. When the snowflakes began to fall, Kelvin and Chris embarked on new adventures in search of warmer weather and began their snowbird era in Florida where their circle of friends grew even larger. This summer Kelvin used every last minute he had to surround himself with his chosen family, sitting on the dock with his feet in the water and a drink in his hand.
Kelvin’s life will always stand as an example of how a person can succeed at all things, if they choose perseverance over fear, determination over excuses, stubbornness over compliance and love as the fuel that drives all that you do.
