Lida Johanna (DeWit) Timmermans

September 1, 1930 ~ September 10, 2023 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Obituary

Timmermans-DeWit, Lida  September 1, 1930 – September 10, 2023 Sadly, we said our last goodbyes to Lida on Sunday, September 10, 2023. At the age of 93, she peacefully passed away in Peterborough. She was predeceased by her husband, Arend, in 2022. She leaves behind her three children; Ann (Elliott), Peter (Karen) and Frits (Clair). She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew, Cara, Aidan, Stephanie (Kern) and great grandchildren, Jayden and Kendal. Born in the border city of Enschede, Netherlands, Lida was the youngest of three children, with two older brothers, Pieter and Frits. After living her formative years during the war she decided to train as a dental assistant for a friend in her hometown. During a summer sailing vacation she met Arend and they married in 1955. Lida’s life was filled with adventure and interesting experiences as she followed her husband and his work career first in Holland, then Borneo, followed by a brief time back in Holland and finally immigration to Canada in 1962. She proudly shared with others that she had three children each born on a different continent; a daughter born in Holland, a son born in Borneo and another son born in Canada. Peterborough became home in Canada and the family embraced the easy access to numerous outdoor activities. Lida will be remembered by many who she interacted with while helping out at Highland Heights Public School, volunteering in the Guiding Program and volunteering with numerous other community support groups. Most of all, Lida loved to take in the abundant natural rural sights during regular drives along the less travelled country roads in the Kawartha Region. Her keen eye would always spot various species of birds and ever changing wildflowers. Right up to the very end she absolutely treasured drives to Burleigh Falls, Hastings and along River Road to Lakefield. As an avid reader, there was always a stack of books ready to be absorbed by Lida and word searches to help her stay sharp as a pin. The Globe and “The” Mail loses a steadfast customer who relished reading the Opinion section and staying current on affairs around the globe. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the patient, respectful, caring and supportive AON staff at both Princess Gardens and Empress Gardens. As an expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders or The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada. The family will remember her life in private and kindly accept notes of condolences at Highland Park Funeral Centre, Peterborough, Ontario.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
