Obituary

RICHEY (LESURF), Lori – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lori Michelle Richey (née Lesurf) on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025, after a short but aggressive battle with cancer. Throughout her battle, Lori fought with unmatched determination and grace, inspiring everyone who knew her.

Lori was born on June 4th, 1967, and grew up in Peterborough, Ontario. When Lori was young, she was an independent person and learned to live the life she was destined for, a life filled with adventure, friends, family, and love. She loved to travel with her family and spend time at the cottage on Rice Lake (always with a friend).

Lori spent 28 years in the healthcare sector, beginning with her role as Manager of Human and Information Resources at Fairhaven LTC where she worked for 14 years from 1992 to 2006.

In 2006, Lori commenced the next stage of her career with the Peterborough Family Health Team, working in various roles of increasing responsibility. In 2015, Lori was appointed the role of Executive Director of Primary Health Care Services of Peterborough. Lori stepped down from this role in 2020 to pursue her lifelong interest in interior and creative design.

In 2023, Peterborough County was in need of a Physician Recruiter. Driven by a deep passion for ensuring equitable access to healthcare services for all, Lori seized this opportunity to use her skills and experience to help the surrounding communities.

Lori was a vibrant and passionate individual who dedicated her life to her family and friends. Her love for travel took her to many beautiful destinations where she created lasting memories and cherished moments with loved ones. These memories will forever be remembered by all, thanks to her thousands of pictures and incredible photography talents. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she found joy in nature, whether hiking through serene forests or enjoying the tranquility of the mountains. Her creative spirit shone through in everything she did, inspiring those around her with her unique talents and ideas. Lori was known for her strength, compassion, and unwavering love, leaving a profound impact on all who knew her.

Predeceased by her parents, Tom (Red) and Phyllis Lesurf, and her husband Steve Richey.
Survived by her children, Kyle (Natalie) and Travis (Ieva); her brother, Craig Lesurf (Lisa); father-in-law, Bob (Sylvia); brother-in-law, Todd (Larraine); and boyfriend, Mike Hearne. She will be desperately missed as her bond with family was so strong, having a special connection with each and every one of them.

Lori (Nana) was lucky to have four amazing grandsons, Lucas, Nathan, Jaxon, and Tommy, whom she cherished very much. She had a very special relationship with all of her grandchildren, who loved spending time with her dearly. The grandchildren will miss their Nana and will cherish all of the special times they had together.

We know that Lori has had a positive impact on many lives, and we would love for these stories to be shared with us. This will allow us all to reminisce about the good times with family, both present and future. Please send a message to memoriesofloririchey@gmail.com and share a story of Lori and how she impacted your life.

We invite her friends and family to join us at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, for a Celebration of Lori’s Life on Friday, April 4th, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Flowers for the celebration of life or donations to Big Brothers Big Sisters would be appreciated on Lori’s behalf. In classic Lori fashion, she was a part of this organization for many years, where she used her joy and passion for life to give back to youth in the community.

Thank you to all of the staff at PRHC for their dedication and efforts during this hard fought battle.

Lori will be deeply missed by many but remembered as a fun-loving, genuine, life of the party.

She will continue dancing, laughing, and being a light to all those around her ❤
