COWAN, Marilyn Joyce (nee Knights)
Forever in our hearts. Peacefully with her family by her side in Peterborough on Monday, March 31, 2025 in her 83rd year. Beloved mother of Andrew Cowan and his wife Janice Elliott, Shannon Cowan, and Dan Cowan and his wife Andrea. Cherished grandmother of Jack Cowan, Tyler Cowan, Logan Keen, Avery Keen, Sophie Cowan, Ella Cowan, and Spencer Cowan. Dear sister of Carole Gorrill and her husband Victor. Predeceased by her parents William and Gladys Knights and her brothers Doug Knights, and Bill Knights. Sadly missed by her nieces and nephews. Marilyn had a life well lived with an undeniable zest for life and fun. She was a career trailblazer early on, becoming one of the first women to work on the trading floor of the Montreal Stock Exchange. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother who loved to celebrate every aspect of life and her love and bright spirit shone through to everyone who knew her. She loved tending to her floral gardens, bringing much joy to others through playing her music and made many great memories with close friends in Ajijic Mexico when spending winters there. A sports fan since she was a teenager, she rarely missed a Toronto Maple Leafs game and loved her Toronto Blue Jays. She never shied away from a fun competitive game of cards with her friends and family. She led with grace and kindness and was an irreplaceable role model to her family. Always with a beautiful smile and a heart full of gratefulness, her song will go on as she is shining brightly down on us. Friends will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 2:00-3:00 with a Celebration of life beginning at 3:00 PM. Reception to follow. Private Family Interment will be held at Rosemount Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Peterborough Hospice for their kindness and compassion. In memory of Marylin and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Peterborough Humane Society or Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated by the family.
