Mary Barbara (Woodworth) Pierce

Pierce, Mrs. Mary Barbara (nee Woodworth)   10 June 1927 – 25 August 2018

Very peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, at the age of 91.  Beloved wife of the late Gordon Francis Pierce. Loving and wonderful mother of Nancy Pierce of Prince Edward Island and David Pierce (Elaine) of Mount Albert, Ont. She also leaves behind her adored sister, Louise Robblee, of Prescott, Ontario. Mary will also be missed by her wonderful care giver and friend, Liz Griffith, who Mary thought of as a second daughter. The family cannot express its gratitude enough to Liz for the exemplary care, attention and love she lavished upon Mary.

Mary spent her final two years as a resident of Applewood Retirement Home, where she made many friends and enjoyed the camaraderie of the knitting club and the friendship room as well as the beauty of the outdoor gardens. We know the staff and residents will miss her tremendously and the family thanks them for all their help.

Mary was born and raised on a farm in the beautiful Annapolis Valley area of Nova Scotia, where her passion for animals was cultivated. But her real love was for cats, and that love remained with her for her entire life. All she really ever requested for Christmas was a cat calendar, and if she was feeling a bit down, watching cat videos would soon cheer her right back up again.

A special thank you to Dr. Michaeal Gibson and the amazing staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Peterborough Regional Health Centre for their concern, support and care of Mary during her last few days.
