McGRATTAN, Michael Bernard – Passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre with his loving wife and son by his side on Saturday, May 21st, 2016 in his 53rd year. Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Murphy). Adored father of Sam. Cherished son of Lois (nee Gillespie) and the late William “Bill”.  Sadly missed by his mother-in-law Nancy Murphy (Late Honourable Mr. Justice Samuel Murphy), sister-in-law Erin Reid (Jamie), brother-in-law Alex Murphy (Zanne), and his Aunt’s and many cousins in the Gillespie and McGrattan family along with his friends.   Mike’s current career was his dream job at Rapido Trains Inc., who became like a second family.  Mike started his career with Domtar/Norampac and became a General Manager of Art and Die and with his team, won awards in graphic designs.  Mike had many passions, which included his volunteer work with The Royal Canadian Air Cadets, Air Cadet League of Canada (OPC Director 1994-2003, National Director 2000 - 2003), The Royal Canadian Air Force Association 428 Wing, Kinsmen Club and Church League Softball.  For his volunteer work, Mike was honoured to receive the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendations, the Air Cadet League of Canada Volunteer Service Metal, The Hal Rogers Kinsmen Membership Achievement Award, among many other awards. Mike was a respected N scale modeller well-known for his Puddington Valley layout (which has been featured in N scale Magazine and Canadian Railway Modeller). Special thanks the Dialysis Unit, Dr. Cameron, Shelly, Dr. Weir and the Palliative Care Unit for all the amazing and compassionate care they provided to Mike. A celebration of Mike’s life will take place at the Peterborough Naval Association (24 Whitlaw Street Peterborough) on Sunday June 5, 2016 at 3:00.  There is a visitation from 2 -3.  Donations to the Farquharson Kinsmen Air Cadet Flying Scholarship Fund (cheques payable to “534 Raiders Squadron” - 428 Wing R.C.A.F.A. 274 King Street Peterborough, Ontario K9J 2S2) would be greatly appreciated by the family.   On-line condolences may be expressed at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com
