NUGENT, Murray Ross
With his family by his side, Murray passed away on Sunday, November 17th, 2024, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of 51 years to Sandra (née Morton). Loving father to his son, Gregory Francis, and his daughter, Jennifer Louise. Murray is survived by his sisters Irene Tait, Betty Kay (Bill), Marge Jenkins (Lindsay), and Marie McLaren, as well as his sisters-in-law Joan Gray and Maddy Morton. Murray is predeceased by his parents Frank and Grace (née Murray), and his brothers-in-law Gord Tait, Rick McLaren, Terry Gray, Ralph Morton (Pat), and Frank Morton. Murray will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Murray’s two great loves were his family and sports. He played goalie for decades, most notably for the Little Britain Jets Intermediate C Hockey Team, who were inducted into the Lindsay District Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also well known in the baseball community, where he was involved in hardball, fastball, and slo-pitch as a coach, player, umpire, and sabermetrician. He served for 21 years as the President of Peterborough Weeknight Slo-Pitch and, most recently, enjoyed his final role as a volunteer with the Peterborough Challengers.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER-IN-CHAINS (459 Reid Street, Peterborough) on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00am. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Friends and family are then invited to remember Murray at a reception at the Highland Park Funeral Centre. Online condolences may be made at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com. In memory of Murray, donations to Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated by the family.
