HEFFERNAN, Paul Thomas
We are sad to announce the passing of Paul Thomas Heffernan who passed peacefully with his family at his side at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the age of 82. Paul will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Elizabeth "Liz" (nee Kremer) of 57 years, his loving children Chris Heffernan (Melissa), Karen Tarkington (Mike), and Mike Heffernan (Courtney) and cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Preston, Kelsey, Kian, Karson, Kacey, and Anna. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas Heffernan and Kathleen Hartwick, Paul is survived by his brother Albert Heffernan (Carole) and sister Brenda Holmes (John). Paul was born and raised in Otonabee Township, where he spent his life on the family farm where he loved his pets. He enjoyed a long and successful career as an Electrical Engineer with Canadian General Electric in Peterborough, working for 38 years in Small Motors, Large Motors, and Marketing divisions. During his career with CGE, Paul learned Spanish to better communicate with colleagues at GE plants in Mexico. Born on the farm to Tom & Kay, he grew up on the land and eventually purchased his own 100-acre farm nearby where Paul and Liz built their family home. Paul raised cattle before eventually transitioning to custom farming. Music was another important part of Paul's life. He learned to play the piano as a child and later learned to play the violin. Paul was also deeply involved in his community. For 25 years, he assisted with financial management and served as a convenor for the Assumption Softball League. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Assumption Church. Paul was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. He was well known for his ability to troubleshoot a problem and find a solution. Friends and family will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. Funeral prayers will be held at the Highland Park Funeral Centre on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Douro, with a reception afterward at St. Joseph's Parish Hall in Douro.
