NEUMAN, Peter Frederick: Following a long and very courageous battle with Huntington disease, Peter passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s at Fleming in the loving embrace of his family on Friday, April 27, 2018 as he approached his 60th year. Peter was the beloved husband of Cheryl McKenna for 36 years. Devoted father of Emily (Brad), and Kaitlyn, and cherished grandfather of Jackson. Dear son of Alma Heinz and the late Henry Neuman. Brother of Connie Baker (Sam), and John (Marj). Brother-in-law of Jackie Bates (Jim), Lisa Sutherland (Dwayne), and son-in-law of Norma McKenna.
Peter will be forever remembered for his quick wit and playful sense of humour. An engineer and graduate of Queens University, he had a fascination with mechanical devices, was highly intelligent, and viewed no repair job at home as being either too large or too difficult to tackle. One of his most important institutional contributions was the design, construction and operation of the wind tunnel laboratory at Trent University where he worked alongside Cheryl as a research technician for over fifteen years. In his healthy years, Peter loved all forms of outdoor sport and being ‘Mr. Mom’ at home to his daughters. Despite Peter’s fierce determination and resilience, assistive devices eventually replaced his tools and he entered long term care in 2012. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Turner, and particularly, the incredible staff at St Joes for their outstanding, multi-year care of Peter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Peter’s Life in All Saints Anglican Church, Peterborough on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow. In memory of Peter, and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Huntington Society of Canada would be appreciated by Peter’s family.
