Harris, Raymore "Ray" Donald - (Founder and President of Harco Enterprises) Suddenly at his residence on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Mary "Joan" Harris (nee Blondin), in their 60th year of marriage. Loving father of Terry Harris (Linda) and Kathy Perry (Randy). Cherished grandfather of Stephen, Danielle (Curtis) and Cameron Harris; and Ryan (Amber) and Curtis Perry (Amber). Brother-in- law of Carl Blondin (Cathy) and Grace Blaskievich. Will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, friends and work colleagues. Predeceased by his parents, Gratton and Pearl Harris, his brother, John "Jack" Harris and sister-in-law Muriel Harris and brother-in-law, Raymore Blondin. Ray will be missed by his "granddogs" Ginger and Winston.
As a young boy growing up on Princess Street delivering papers for the Peterborough Examiner, Ray developed his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial enthusiasm. Ray was a long term employee of De Laval (Alfa Laval), and in 1964, he furthered his passion when he founded Harco Enterprises Ltd. He was honored to be the recipient of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce 1997 Entrepreneur of the year award for Industrial / Manufacturing – an accomplishment that he and his family were all very proud of. Through his dedication and hard work, Ray has created a long lasting family legacy with the next generations following in his footsteps at Harco. He seldom missed a day at work and set an example to his family and employees which he genuinely cared about. His family’s well being and happiness was always priority, which led him to purchase a cottage on Pigeon Lake to ensure family could enjoy times together.
Ray was a kind, humble man who gave of his time generously, serving on the PRHC Foundation Board and the Peterborough Memorial Centre Board amongst others. He was also a long time member of St. James United Church, a Mason with Royal Arthur Lodge #523 and a Noble of the Kawartha Shrine Club. Ray was proud of his community and supported many local charities. He was also an avid hockey fan who was a long time season ticket holder of the Peterborough Petes.
Friends and relatives will be received on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Highland Park Funeral Centre, (2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough).
