Ralph shared love and life with Brenda, his wife of 49 years, and their children and spouses, Braden & Karen; Mark & Karen; and Melody & Nathan. His grandchildren Ava, Katie, Fianna (2012) & Alex; Zoe & Stephen; and Addy & Zach filled him with pride and joy, whether cheering them on in sports, dance, band, or fishing, chasing them in a game of tag, giving piggy backs, or just walking together in the woods with their dogs. Families, friends and strangers alike knew he cared as he'd listen intently, with understanding and encouragement, always without judgment.
His love of nature was fostered by his parents Braden (2012) and Laura Whittington (2008); brother Eric & Val; and sister Frances & Cameron Wybrow. His Burt brothers- and sisters-in-law Gary (1948), Charlene & Clayton, Doug & Annie, Sharon & Craig, David (1992) and Brian & Rosemary, plus fifteen beloved nieces & nephews fondly share stories of farm life, tractor rides, cabin adventures, camping, and lively dinner conversations.
In his 77 years, he made a difference. Growing up, he provided support both to his family and on the farm, while excelling academically throughout grade school (Chemong and Adam Scott) and university (Trent and McMaster). He became a beloved pastor at Hanover Baptist, Calvary Baptist Cobourg, and Norwood Baptist. As a chaplain, he cared for the residents of Dixville Home, Quebec; D'Arcy Place, Huronia Regional Center, Golden Plough Lodge, Peterborough Jail and Millbrook Correctional Center; his tenderness calmed many a weary soul.
Our sincere thanks for the expert care he received from everyone at the Ptbo Cancer Center with Dr Anjum; the Palliative Care team, especially Dr Mallory; and Drs Motyer, Hyde, Meade and Mui.
We invite you to join us at the Highland Park Funeral Center for visitation Friday, Feb 7 from 2-4 pm and 6-8pm, with funeral service Saturday, Feb 8 at 2:30, (live stream available) with Rev. Rodney Smith-Merkley officiating.
