It is with deep grief and sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (“Bob”) Wilson at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on March 15, 2026, in his 82nd year.
Born in Sunridge, Ontario, Bob joined the Navy in 1961, where he worked in the engine room aboard ship. After leaving the Navy, he returned to school to earn his certificate as a small engine mechanic, though he spent most of his working years in the flooring industry.
Bob was a very friendly man who loved to talk to everyone. He was extremely reliable, competent, and a perfectionist in everything he did. Over the years, he would often meet people who recognized him as the man who had installed their carpet 30 or more years earlier—and proudly tell him it still looked new.
He was an avid boater and fisherman who took every opportunity to be on the water with family and friends. Whether on rivers or lakes from Bancroft to Rice Lake, or spending time in Sunridge at his brother Gord’s cottage on Lake Bernard, Bob was happiest outdoors.
Bob was also a wonderful singer. He formed his first band with friends from his hometown, and they continued to reunite over the years to play at anniversaries and weddings for their devoted fans. He also performed with bands in Calgary and Peterborough, singing mostly country music, though he had a deep love for the rockabilly and rock ’n’ roll of the 1950s and 60s.
He spent much of his free time in the garage, fixing engines of all kinds—from snowmobiles and boat motors to chainsaws. In his later years, when he no longer had the finger mobility for finer work, he still enjoyed sitting in the garage with family and friends, sharing a beer and telling stories.
Bob will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Karen (née Jackson), of 52 years; his sons, Stuart and Tyler; and his cherished grandchildren, Lacey, Emma, and Lilly, and their mother, Debbie. He was predeceased by his parents, Stuart and Barbara Wilson; his sister, Jean Clayton; and brothers-in-law Earl Clark and Don LaCombe. He is survived by his sisters, Joyce (Bruce) and Patricia, his brother, Gordon (Peggy); and his brother-in-law, Bob Clayton. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and members of the extended Jackson family.
"Do not cry because it is over, Smile because it is over"
Somewhere Bob is singing, fishing and showing someone how to do it perfectly!
In keeping with Bob’s wishes, a private cremation has taken place, and no formal services will be held at this time.
