Roger Lindsay Fowler
April 13, 1946 – April 7, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Roger Lindsay McArthur Fowler, on Monday, April 7, 2025, just shy of his 79th birthday. Roger passed while doing what he loved—working outdoors—living life with the same energy, passion, and spirit that defined him every day.
Born on April 13, 1946, in Coventry, England, Roger was the beloved son of the late George and Isabel (née Hamill) Fowler. He emigrated to Canada as a young boy. He built a life rooted in family, friendship, and a deep appreciation for nature and community.
Roger was the cherished husband of 48 yrs to Gladys Fowler (née Ziroff), with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter, love, and adventure. A devoted father, he was endlessly proud of his children: Michael Moore (Rhonda), Robin McRobbie (Todd), Penny Baird (Jonathan), Meaghan Fowler (Cole Tarry), and Matthew Fowler. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren: Robert (Chloe), Andrew, Jordyn (Reuben), Jericho, Stephanie (Andrew), Joshua, Ashley (Greg), Elora, and Kaidynce, and his great-grandchildren: Ezra, Juniper, Brinley, Bryson, Laila, Olivia, and Lincoln. He was a loving brother to Sue Honeyman (the late Bill) and the late Leslie Fowler (Jane), and a brother-in-law to George Ziroff (Margaret) and Joan O'Keefe. Roger was a treasured uncle and cousin to many in Alberta, Ireland, and England, and a dear friend to many.
He was a fitter/welder with General Electric and took early retirement due to health issues. A survivor of bowel cancer, he faced many health challenges with grit and determination. When president of the Kawartha District Ostomy Association he turned his experiences into purpose, supporting and counselling others battling colorectal cancer, Crohn’s, and Colitis. He was a past member of the Kawartha Wood Turner’s Guild. He truly enjoyed his time as a trainer for theLakefield Junior C Hockey Team, Red Oak Senior Lacrosse Team, and Senior Lakers Lacrosse Team. But it was in the great outdoors where Roger truly came alive—whether fishing, hunting, bird watching, or golfing.
Roger always lived life to the fullest. He and Gladys travelled widely and in 2018 Roger set his sights sky-high—literally—earning his pilot license simply because he dreamed of flying. Above all, Roger was a family man. He found his greatest joy in the laughter and love of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never missed a chance to tell them how proud he was.
Roger’s legacy is one of strength, compassion, and love. He leaves behind a life well-lived and a family forever grateful for the time they shared with him. He will be missed more than words can say.
A celebration of his life will be held at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., with eulogies beginning at 2:00 P.M.
