Gosselin, Sheila Mary (nee Scarlett)

It is with profound sadness that her family announces the passing of Sheila on Friday, November 17, 2023, five years and a day after the passing of her beloved Garry.  She passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at Palliative Care, PRHC, Peterborough, in her 89th year.

Beloved wife and best friend of the late Garry Gosselin (Nov.16, 2018) for 60 wonderful years. He is welcoming her with open arms. Loving and devoted mother of Lori (Monty), the late Larry, Julie, Rob (Ramona), Jeff (Joanne) of Peterborough and Justin (Beth) of Oshawa. Cherished grandma of Jade (Jon), Grace, Hunter, Joe, Jack, Hope and Cohen. Honorary grandmother to Larissa and Angelina Valle. Dear sister of Alan (Jean) Scarlett of Oshawa and sister-in-law Emily Scarlett of Alberta. Predeceased by her parents Harold and Marguerite (Allen) Scarlett, mother and father-in-law James and Laura (Coffey) Gosselin, son Larry (1985) and infant sons Joseph (1967) and James (1972), brothers Raymond, John and Robert Scarlett and sisters-in-law Yvonne (Gosselin) Mackay and Ferne Scarlett. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours. Sheila is a 6th generation descendant of Peter Robinson Irish Settlers to Douro in 1825 – Edmond Allen and Bridget Fleming. She worked at Westclox in the Foot Press Dept. and Parkway Pharmacy. She had a life well lived by spending quality time with her family and friends, socializing with people, shopping, dining out, travelling, visiting casinos and had a flare for fashion. She had a deep faith and strong convictions and was an active member of CWL for over 50 years. Her service to community included Past President of Sacred Heart CWL, member of Sacred Heart Church Auxiliary, volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Family and friends will be received at Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, ON on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm (Parish prayers 5:45 pm). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 208 Romaine Street, Peterborough on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11 am. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery followed by a reception in Sacred Heart Parish Hall.

A special thank you to staff at Sunnybrook and PRHC, especially Dr. Garcia and Dr. Nishikawa and the caring and compassionate staff on B3 and D2 (Palliative Care) at PRHC.

In memory of Sheila, donations, if desired, made to St. Vincent de Paul Society-Sacred Heart/St. John’s, Palliative Care unit at PRHC, Sick Kids, or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by her family.
