SIERRA JOANNA HEWSON

January 29th, 1990 - April 15, 2021

It is with incredible sadness and broken hearts that the Hewson family announces the passing   of our beautiful and forever loved daughter Sierra who lost her very heroic and graceful fight with Ewing’s sarcoma. Sierra the wonderful and cherished daughter and best friend to her parents Carol Hewson (nee Van Zutphen) and John Hewson and loving sister to Tyler and fiancé Nicoletta. Sierra will also be sadly missed and forever remembered by her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Predeceased by Oma and Opa Arie and Joanne Van Zutphen, Uncle Paul Van Zutphen and grandparents George and Joyce Hewson and Ross Ashforth. Sierra was born in Etobicoke and moved to Mississauga until moving to Peterborough in 2017. Sierra’s love of nature and animals were her passions. She volunteered for dog rescues and the Kawartha Wildlife Centre.  She opened Top Notch Grooming Shop and was very successful in Mississauga and Peterborough. Another passion of Sierra’s was collecting rocks and crystals. Her collection grew as time went on and she loved to display and talk about her new finds.  Sierra also had a green thumb and loved to cultivate and collect plants. Sierra, affectionately known as CC by those close to her was successful with everything she did in life. She had a beautiful heart and was so full of courage and love.  Thoughtful and generous and put a smile on everyone’s face. Sierra’s favourite place was the family cottage on Crystal Lake. She also loved to travel and spend time visiting family and friends.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. B. Webster and Dr. A. Kathiravelu along with nurses Angel and Emanuel for their compassion and care for Sierra. Thank-you to family and friends that have supported Sierra and our family over the years. Teachers Pat MacLennan and Val Biancucci. Sierra was very grateful and humbled and loved you all.

Due to COVID restrictions the family will hold a Celebration of Sierra’s Life when conditions permit. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sierra’s name may be made to Kawartha Wildlife Centre, DIBS Rescue or Save Me Dog Rescue.
