Obituary

Susan Norma Jarvis (née Malcolm formally Walker)

February 16, 1953 – January 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing  of Susan Norma Jarvis, beloved wife of Carl Jarvis and  devoted mother to Scott, Steven, and Ryan, on January 18,  2025, at the age of 71. Susan passed away in her sleep,  leaving behind a void that her family will never be able to fill.

Born on February 16, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario, to Norma and  William (Bill) Malcolm, Susan was the youngest of three  children, cherished by her older brothers Barry and Ken.  Growing up, Susan embraced the joys and challenges of  family life, creating memories that shaped her vibrant and  compassionate nature.

In 1973, Susan married her first love, Ron Walker. Together,  they built a life of adventure as Ron served in the Canadian  Armed Forces, raising their sons—Scott, Steven, and Ryan— while traveling across the world. Among their many journeys,  the family’s four years in Baden-Baden, Germany, stood out  as a particularly formative chapter.

As her sons grew, Susan and Ron amicably parted ways, and  Susan found the true love of her life, Carl Jarvis, in 1994.  Their love story began at Spring Valley in Vaughan, Ontario,  and blossomed with fun-filled dates and adventures. They  married on February 20, 1998, in Hot Springs, Arkansas,  during their time living in Shreveport, Louisiana, for work. The  couple later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where they  made a home for seven years, surrounded by Susan’s cherished gardens and beloved dogs—Bonnie, Molly, Charlie,  and Chubby.

In 2006, Susan and Carl returned to Canada, settling in  Brampton, Ontario. For 12 years, they delighted in family  gatherings, home renovations, and new adventures, including  welcoming another dog, Tego, into their lives. Their final move  brought them to a condo in Peterborough, Ontario, where  Susan found her true sanctuary. Retirement allowed her to  pour her love and impeccable taste into making their home a  warm and inviting space, filled with joy and hospitality.

Susan’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a  devoted and loving mother to Scott Walker, Steven Walker  (Jen), and Ryan Walker (Reannon), and a proud Nana to ten  adored grandchildren: Joshua, Presley, Claire, Nicholas,  Jordan, Brady, Madalynn, Hudson, Marshal, and Elizabeth  Walker. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in  their hearts.

Susan is predeceased by her parents, Norma and William  (Bill) Malcolm, and her sister-in-law Nancy Malcolm. She is  survived by her husband Carl, her brothers Barry and Ken,  her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews,  and extended family, all of whom will carry her memory  forward with love and gratitude.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Sunday, January 26th, 2025 from 2 - 4 PM at Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough. Words of Remembrance will be shared at 2 PM. Dress code is colourful and casual.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan’s  memory to Heart & Stroke Foundation or a local Women’s Shelter or Animal Shelter.

Susan will be remembered for her warmth, her ability to make  everyone feel at home, and her unwavering devotion to her  family. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure in  the hearts of all who knew her.
