Susan Spencley-May Obituary

SPENCLEY-MAY, Susan Emily

Susan’s fun loving and artistic spirit was peacefully set free in the early morning hours of June 29, 2021. Memories of her exuberance and eternal optimism will forever be embraced and treasured by her many friends and family.

Susan and her husband Brian May shared over 30 memorable years of marriage. They resided in their historic home, the former Fairmount Wesleyan Church, endlessly refining and designing their country gardens; an evolving source of artistic inspiration from Susan’s studio windows.

Predeceased by her parents Florence (1999) and Earl Spencley (1951), Susan spoke with pride and affection of their childhood love and influence as dedicated owners of Spencley’s Flowers. Following her father’s untimely passing as a volunteer firefighter in the tragic 1951 Peterborough downtown disaster, Susan inspired by her mother’s strength and support pursued her life-long passion, attending York University majoring in Fine Arts. As a recognized and gifted artist and member of several local Gallery Collectives, Susan’s creations can be found in the Art Gallery of Peterborough, PRHC Foundation and many private collections.

Susan’s legacy lives on with her loving sister Margaret & husband Rhod Miller and their children Sasha & husband Chad, David & husband Bill, Lauren & husband Sean and their families.

Aunt Susan’s effervescence will always be cherished by Dana, Shawn & Isabel, Shane & Sasha, Brenda & Tim Madill. And as a source of wit and wisdom she will be forever admired by brother-in-law Paul May.

Our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Becca Webster and the nurses of PRHC D2 for their skill and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the PRHC Foundation in memory of Susan would be most appreciated and can be made at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough.  Interment will be held at Little Lake Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com
