GROOME, Sylvia Patricia (nee Powers) on November 7, 2021 at Centennial Place, Millbrook at the age of 83. Mother of Christopher (Jane), Angela Borysenko, Michelle Cook, and predeceased by Michael (1979). Grandmother to Cullen, Miles, Madison, Brennon, and Danielle. Predeceased by parents Ed and Lil Powers (nee Coward) of East City. Eldest sibling to Shirley DiNoble (Frank), the late Pat Morton (the late Ralph), Jean Higgins, the late Mary Webb (the late Paul), Ray Powers (Barb), and Len Powers (Bonnie). Loving companion of the late John Bibby.
Sylvia’s passion was nursing and she was especially proud of her contributions to the Peterborough hospitals during her career. Having graduated from St Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1958, Sylvia worked at both St Joseph’s and Civic Hospitals, achieving leadership roles in the departments of Orthopaedics, Emergency, Palliative Care and Medical Out-Patients.
Sylvia has resided at Centennial Place for the past four years under the appreciated care of its dedicated staff and Dr. Mark Robinson.
In keeping with Sylvia’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
Friends will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, on Saturday, December 4th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. COVID protocols are in place and face coverings are mandatory. Anyone wishing to attend the visitation is asked to visit Sylvia’s obituary page at www.highlandparkfuneralcentre.com or by calling 705-745-6984 to reserve a visitation time. A private family service will be held at a later time.
