Thomas Stephen Bencze
November 20, 1951 - September 9, 2025
Peacefully ay PRHC with his loving family by his side.
Tom is survived by his best friend and wife of over 50 years, Mary (Caban), son Tim, daughter-in-law Morgan and his adored grandchildren, Maren and Olsen, aka ‘Pal’ and ‘Bud’. Tom also leaves behind his siblings Larry (Eva), Jim (Cindy Macfarlane), Jane MacLeod (Duncan), Gerry (Michelle), Brian (Mary), Frank (Dianne), Dan (Louise) and a large number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his beloved son, Michael, parents Peter and Loretta and in-laws Donald and Sheila Caban.
Tom played a variety of sports growing up, including hockey, lacrosse and squash, making lifelong friends along the way. He appreciated family above all else and always looked forward to a loud spaghetti dinner after a spirited game of road hockey with his friends and family.
In his later years, Tom spent much of his time following the happenings of his grandchildren, taking great pride in their accomplishments. He was an avid follower on their sports apps and never missed a game that they played.
Tom will be missed and remembered for so many things, including his generous spirit, passion for sport and his strong work ethic.
The Bencze family would like to thank the caring staff of the palliative unit at PRHC for their dedication and support in Tom’s final days.
In accordance with Tom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private graveside service held at a later date. In memory of Tom, and in lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the fund that was created in memory of the work done by his son, Michael - PRHC Foundation - Mental Health Fund (Early Psychosis Intervention Program).
