It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Veronica Marie Evans (nee Bourdages) in her 89th year after a battle with dementia and Parkinson’s on May 27th, 2022 with her daughter Mary by her side.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 41 years, Arthur. A loving and devoted mother to Clark Barrow (Trixie), Michael Barrow (Selina), Brian Barrow (Vicki), Mary Russelle, the late Israel Barrow, Tim Evans (Darlene) and Chris Evans (Cindy). Adored by her grandchildren Lisa, Becky, Richard, Chris, Jacqueline, Bob, Natasha, Ethan, Kayla, Andrew and Marissa and known affectionately as GG to her great-grandchildren, Luke, Mackenzie, Madison, Logan M, Hannah H, Logan S, Hannah B, Cole, Brooks, Ewan, Nova, Riley, Gray, Sawyer, Sophia, Bryce and Ava. Daughter of Albert and Georgina, predeceased. Beloved sister of Jo-Anne (Laurie), the late Francis “Bucky” (Phyllis), George and Winston, Tynne, Antoinette, and Rosie, and she will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born and raised in Sault Ste Marie, later living in Peterborough where she met her Arthur and worked for Bell Canada and Bowes and Cocks. They lived in Calgary and Edmonton before retiring home to Peterborough to be closer to family. Wherever Veronica called home she easily made friends and cherished every one of them.
For many in her life, Veronica was a rock and an inspiration. She was a strong woman who loved life and caring for others. She also loved entertaining and no one ever visited her home without getting a hug, a drink, sweets or ice cream.
Veronica loved to dance and spend time with her friends and family and always presented herself with grace. She always showed concern for others before herself, even in the nursing home she wanted to help those around her.
The family would like to thank the caring staff and students at St.Joseph’s at Fleming long-term care home and to the residents on her floor, she will be missed.
A private family internment will take place before a public Celebration of Life which will be held at Highland Park Funeral Home, Bensfort Road, Peterborough, June 18th from 2-4pm.
In remembrance of Veronica and in lieu of flowers please make a much appreciated donation to St.Joseph’s at Fleming Foundation or a charity of your choice.
